High comfort staircase

A comfortable staircase is a combination of deep treads (going > 19 cm) and a low tread rise. The tread rise is typically 17-21 cm. Width: 80 cm or more.

Space saving staircase

A space saving staircase is a more compact staircase and developed with a steeper pitch to occupy minimal space. Often a tread rises between 18-25 cm and a going below 18 cm.

Floor-to-floor height

The distance between your floor below and the floor above. This measurement should be made in your home where the staircase will be installed.

Number of treads

The number of treads on a staircase depends on the floor-to-floor height in your home. Our staircases are with several numbers of treads to fit the needs.

Width of staircase

The staircase width is the complete width of the staircase including tread, balustrade and potential string. A high comfort staircase is 80 cm or more.

Going of a staircase

The going of the treads is measured as the horizontal distance between two treads’ leading edges. It defines the foot room when walking down the staircase. A good going is above 19 cm.

Tread rise

The rise is measured as the height between two treads. A comfortable rise of a staircase is 17-21 cm.

Total going of staircase

The total going defines how much space the staircase will occupy in your room. It is the horizontal distance from the outer edge of the first to the wall.

Factors to consider when choosing your staircase?

We make staircases that is developed with standard dimensions that can be customized to fit your home – because they are modular staircases. You can install them yourselves; they are easy to mount because of our instruction guides and movies.

Straight flight staircase

A staircase can simply run straight up and down without turning. This is called a straight flight staircase. The disadvantage of a straight flight staircase model is that it often must be quite long opening and occupy larger horizontal space in the room (total going) to be able to reach all the way to next floor. But it is the simplest staircase, easiest to build and the cheapest solution. It can be bought as a kit including everything needed for installation. If your room is limited on space, a staircase with either quarter turn or half-turn, can be the better solution for you.

Quarter turn staircase or winder staircase

A quarter turn staircase (90-degree turn) is a great solution if your room is not big enough for a straight flight staircase. It is a staircase with a lot og elegance. The cut treads in the winder part (in the turn) are “crooked” to follow the bend. DOLLE, we have a lot of quartern turn staircase that are really space saver stairs with turn.

Half turn staircase

The half-turn staircase is often chosen as the space saving staircase. A half turn stair is turning 180 degrees. It allows you to build a staircase that takes up minimal horizontal space. The winders (cut treads) can be a bit more difficult to walk for small children. It allows you to build a staircase that does not take up much space in length. In turn, several treads are cut "crooked". Half turn staircases are often chosen as the space saving and minimalist solution, which should not appear too much.

Small and compact staircase

We have a large assortment of small staircases. Our smallest staircase models have the space-saving asymmetric reversing treads which provide a comfortable tread surface even where there is not much.

Paddle stairs

An ingenious tread shape makes these loft stairs real space-saver stairs. To look for paddle treads stairs look at ROME, GRAZ, BERLIN and BASEL are paddle stairs with the reversing treads.
