Installing Spiral Staircases

When installing a spiral staircase from one floor to another, such as from a hallway to bedrooms or bathrooms, it is crucial to ensure compliance with certain building regulations. These regulations vary by country but often include specific safety measures. One of the primary rules is the 100 mm gap rule, which dictates that the space between balusters or individual treads should not exceed 100 mm. This is to prevent accidents. In this case Montreal Classic 4 & 5 are relevant.

A Stylish and Functional Spiral staircase

The MONTREAL Classic 4 & 5 spiral staircases are designed for access to inhabited spaces. These staircases are not only functional and space saving, but they are also aesthetically pleasing, serving as a sculptural element within a room that enhances a home's infrastructure. Key features of the MONTREAL Classic series include solid treads in beautiful oak and beech.

Secondary Spiral Staircases: Solutions for Non-Habitable Spaces

For access to non-habitable spaces such as lofts, offices, loft conversions, playrooms, or mezzanine floors, a simpler spiral staircase can be installed. These areas are typically considered temporary access spaces, so the stringent regulations for habitable areas do not apply. The following spiral staircases are suitable for such purposes:

  • CALGARY - a basic model designed for practicality and ease of installation.
  • MONTREAL Classic 2 & 3: Similar to higher-end models but with features tailored to non-habitable spaces, making them a cost-effective and functional choice.

When planning to install a spiral staircase, consider the following:

  • Ensure that the chosen staircase model meets all local building regulations and safety regulations.
  • Measure the available space accurately to choose a staircase that fits well without compromising safety or accessibility.
  • Determine whether the staircase is for habitable or non-habitable spaces, as this will influence the choice of model and design. For habitable spaces, spiral staircases offer a stylish and space-efficient solution, but you need to make sure compliance with local safety regulations.
