At the beginning of the 1970s a trend in structural and civil engineering emerged that aside from classic building materials, used ever more innovative plastic products. DOLLE saw a chance to market these plastic building materials and so the DOLLE Kunststoffe area of operations was started in Bremen.
Roofing tiles, balcony facing and curtain walls from plastic formed the initial range for the exterior. In the early 1990s the product range was expanded to include semi-finished plastic goods from acrylic glass and polycarbonate, as well as PVC high-resistance foam plates and technical plastics.
The range of customers is as varied as the product range. Aside from customers from the traditional building materials and building trades, customers from the mess construction, shop construction and advertising industries, as well as the processing industry, are served.
In 1994 as an extension of DOLLE Kunststoffe of Bremen, a business for plastics sales was founded in Ostthüringen. The location in the town of Bad Köstritz is logistically advantageous in being at the crossing of the most important East German motorway intersection. Here the DOLLE Group has developed a business park of Scandinavian design. As a result of the movement in building activity in East Germany, the business in plastics grew dramatically and was profitable from the beginning.
Crucial for the commercial success of DOLLE Kunststoffe is skilled customer consultancy, because the use and processing of plastics requires specialist knowledge. Projects from terrace roofing to the major building projects with balcony facing and curtain walls are worked out in full in-house and offered with the most appropriate materials.
Seventy-five percent of the orders are made according to customer wishes or worked out in some other way.
At the turn of the millennium, the machinery for plastics processing in the Bremen sphere of operations was visibly expanded and therefore the range of services was also extended. Folding, boring, milling work and edge processing are today undertaken in our own
premises.
Eight years ago together with other medium-sized businesses, we founded the Einkaufsverband deutscher Kunststoffhändler (EVDK) ("Purchasing association of German plastics dealers"). In this joint venture, purchasing advantages for the constituent members are achieved through pooling.
So in the future they will be able to compete successfully with the group-led raw materials trade.
