Dolle A/S was formed in 1982 under the name DHW A/S or Dänische Holzverarbeitungswerke AG.The firm is located in Frøstrup in northern Jutland, which is a region that has a long tradition in wood processing. At the beginning of the 1990s the firm was changed its name to DOLLE A/S in order to appear in Germany and across Europe with a uniform brand.

Right from the beginning attic stairs were made primarily for the German market. In the following years the product range was expanded to include space-saving stairs and spiral staircases. Since 1997 wood cheek wall stairs with mortise and tenon joinery have also been produced. For all production European wood has been almost exclusively used - chiefly Scandinavian pine and spruce - as well as wood from FSC certified cultivation. Care for the environment has also been a primary concern during production: all wooden refuse is vacuumed up and turned into heat energy in a thermal power plant, in order to supply the town of Frøstrup with environmentally-friendly district heating.

Today DOLLE Treppen is the European market leader in attic stairs. In almost all European countries we work with wholesale partners, in order to autonomously market the DOLLE products to regional construction market and building materials businesses. DOLLE Treppen products are also exported overseas, e.g. to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa and Argentina.


The setting up and development of DOLLE A/S is above all connected with the figure of Erik Torrild. As managing director and business partner he developed with the space of 15 years the former wood workshop into a modern production company. He made continual investments in machines and buildings in order to ensure growth and to improve the quality of the products. Today production is undertaken in modern production halls of more than 15,000 m2 using modern technology. The nerve centre of the production is two globally unique highly automated production lines for attic stairs. The greatest precision is required for the product components and therefore the assembly line works free of disruption. Main staircases and space-saving stairs are made in batches and to special order exclusively from CNC-controlled wood processing machines.
DOLLE A/S has been certified according to DIN ISO 9001 since 1994. As one of the first companies in Denmark to do so, DOLLE A/S introduced paper-free production management in the mid 1990s. Work orders and all relevant technical product data is called up on the PC screens located at every machine workplace. Aside from the precise description of the workflow, the product quality is also guaranteed through constant inspection. In a specially developed test centre, new developments and products from the ongoing production are tested. A special R&D department is responsible for the development and further development of products.
